What is PARENT?
PARENT is a 4-week program given by Samar M. Alzeer. Held in-person or online, in English or Arabic, she helps immigrants, refugees and community members heal and find inner peace so they can achieve their life goals. Using creative expression, parents and caregivers learn to overcome anxiety and cope with trauma or other challenges that they shape into a plan for their life. This positively impacts their family and future generations.
How can PARENT help me?
PARENT works within your culture so that you can heal and grow in a safe space without feeling judged.
PARENT builds core skills that all people need to live strong, healthy lives and achieve their personal dreams. These include self-awareness and mindfulness to understand and manage emotions and lower stress. Problem solving by using logical thinking, and coping skills to create positive outlooks. Improving or making strong connections using relationship skills. Feeling safe and confident in new places using social awareness. Knowing you are not alone, you have community support. PARENT helps build new habits and increase trust between family members.
“The quality of these sessions was impressive due to the originality of the core concepts taught as well as the variety of real-life examples and activities conducted in the session. Clients were impressed with the interactive methods, authentic approach and implementation of the core concepts for Cross-Cultural parenting. Every week, YMCA clients eagerly came and participated in these interactive sessions with full understanding of the positive impact these core concepts would have on their families and future participation in Canadian society.”

Build Better Futures as a PARENT Sponsor!
“Sponsorship gave me the confidence to verbalize how I was experiencing the organization differently than others so that we could address those differences. That confidence and the change we made, led me into new roles in diversity, equity and inclusion where I now lead change and make a difference every day for our organization, profession and diverse communities.”
